In 2003, while in college, a gentleman (never seen before) asked me randomly if I had ever thought or wanted to see the Vatican or even if I knew anything about its art! Really did not pay attention to it at first! Then once in a bar, the bouncer, whom I knew very well, went: Luca do you want to come see tomorrow how I work as a guide at the Vatican? This was so weird - 2 different people, 2 different times they talked me into seeing-visiting-guiding in the VATICAN. Well I went seeing the bouncer, I loved the Vatican, I then called the one gentleman from College and…Here we are after 20 years.

“ALL CLIENTS ARE IMPORTANT”

Not only tours which are pretty profitable are to be considered important biz, I tell my staff in the office all the times! All clients are important even if they book an airport transfer only! Back in 2011, while driving clients to the port, I see on the side of the road a white taxi with mechanical issues. On board people needing to check into the cruise, their driver was desperate! It was August 15th and an Italian Holiday; all us in the industry were speeding up to leave the clients at the port and reach our families at the beach! 

Well I speed up I drop off my clients but instead of going to the party, I drove back to that one broken van, picked up those poor clients and took them to the ship. They made it right on time as the ship was ready to close the entrance! Those people wanted to pay me: I SAID NO. They wanted my biz card and I did give it to them (only because they were not clients of a competitor). 2 weeks later or so I receive an email: “Dear Luca, remember us? You took us to the ship and came to rescue us from a broken van” Well this guy was the owner of a HUGE tour operator, DMC, AGENCY. He started using me then and to this day he has been one of my largest client providers…YOU NEVER KNOW… all clients are same, tour AND transfers!


What is new and exciting that you're looking forward to sharing with this year's ETAF delegates?
Nothing is NEW nothing is OLD, same passion and love for what we do and it seems that we can do it properly!


What are some of the trends you're seeing, and what initiatives are you developing to support travel sellers growing their business
Despite today all is bookable on line, through machines or operators that don’t even know what they are selling, we love to keep the old style with that personal touch that set us apart from the rest!


What are your commission structures?
It is really up to the host agency or the independent TA to establish with us how the commissions can be worked. We do what they want us to do :)


What tools/technologies do you have in place to support travel sellers, and do they integrate into current technologies?
We do it the old way. Surely slightly longer as booking process but, boy! How precise and tailor made.
